Percussion is a quick way to produce bodywork results.  As it moves in waves through the body’s soft tissue, percussion unravels knots, softens scar tissue, breaks up trigger points, and reorganizes bundled muscle fibers. And the waves work very deeply into the soft tissue, into places where hand techniques cannot go and with much less discomfort (for client AND for therapist) than digging into the sore spots.

A decade ago we learned that the least expensive and most powerful way to get percussion into your bodywork was to adapt existing power tools to bodywork. So, Robert designed an adapter for a common jigsaw. He experimented with many designs and materials for manufacturing them. We have available now a simple and sturdy adapter that will provide service in your bodywork for many years.

When pushing harder just hurts but does not clear the tissue, these percussion tools provide deep waves guaranteed to release the toughest problems.  You can accomplish in minutes what would take you hours or even many sessions using your hands. Use on shoulder muscles, skull, feet, any soft tissue, even your face! And soft tips go over bones!

We have a special adaptor made at a machine shop for use on jigsaws. We have experimented for years developing this incredible adaptor.  We have adaptors that fit:

  • NEW – most new jigsaws (those that take U-blades)  in which the blade simply snaps into place,  and also
  • ORIGINAL – the old-style jigsaws with a collar that you tighten down to hold the blade in place (like the one you may have had in your garage for years!).

The benefits are so noticeable clients quickly accept the noise (the only downside) and ask for more.  To block the noise invest in a pair of ear covers used for target shooting, or noise-cancelling headphones.

These tools are powerful, yet gentle enough to use on the face, skull, sacrum, and most soft tissue areas.  I avoid the area near the funny bone (elbow) and directly behind the knees. I do NOT percuss the eyes.
Using 2 percussors is effective!

Try this incredibly effective technique:

Use two jigsaws, at slightly different speeds, positioned on either side of the problem area.   The waves produced by the tools will go through the body to meet at the center of the trigger point, knot, or scar tissue. Your percussor can relieve muscles difficult or impossible to reach with hand techniques alone.

What type of jigsaw is best?

It is impossible for us to keep up with the jigsaw brands and models as they change often.  Here are the characteristics you should look for in your saw:

Required
  • Takes a Universal blade (U-blade).
  • Locks in the “on” position (so that you don’t have to hold the button down while you work).

Ideal (but not required):
  • Variable speed (best if you can vary speed while lock is “on”)  If you have a saw that does not have variable speed, you can always attach a tabletop lamp dimmer to vary the speed on your saw.  We have used this set-up for years with no problem to motors or dimmer switch.
  • No fancy features (such as scrolling capability or changing the blade angle)
  • Battery operated

PLEASE NOTE:  All jigsaws come with some kind of protective covering for the blade to run through (a cage, or a plate).  This covering will have to be removed in order for our adaptors to work.  In all cases that we have seen, this protective covering is easy to remove — you may have to remove a couple of screws to lift it off.

Generally, the lesser expensive models meet our requirements the best.  Stick with consumer-quality brands such as SKIL, Black & Decker, Ryobi.

One model that has been around for awhile and is usually available online:  Black & Decker Handi Saw (reciprocating saw). Not a traditional jigsaw, shaped like a pistol.  Operates with a rechargeable battery.  Little lighter and less noise; works well.

Small Adaptor

  • Great for foot reflexology, arthritic hands, and flat bones, such as skull and sacrum.
  • Hard rubber tip; about 1/2″ diameter.
  • New-style (fits the jigsaws that are currently for sale in the stores) = $30.
Medium Adapter

  • The most all-purpose, it’s great for general work. We use a practice golf ball in this adapter; so, the ball is firm but not hard.
  • Diameter = 1 1/2″
  • New-style (fits the jigsaws that are currently for sale in the stores) = $40.
Large Adapter

  • Great for penetrating deeply into big muscle areas, the chest or organs. The large striking surface and softer ball diffuse the vibration more broadly. We use a stress ball in this adapter; so the ball has some give to it.
  • Diameter = 2 1/2″
